The Kiwanis Club of Hidden Valley - Escondido is one local community service club within Kiwanis International - - "a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one community and one child at a time." Since 1963, the Kiwanis Club of Hidden Valley - Escondido has performed many community service projects in Escondido and San Diego County to serve the needs of children and families. Whether it is answering phones at the annual Radiothon for Rady Children's Hospital; or teaching young children to fish at our Annual Fishing Derby at Lake Dixon; or honoring fallen servicemen through our Project Hero program; or working with our KEY Clubs at San Pasqual High School; Escondido Charter High School and San Pasqual Academy - - the members of our club desire to "give back" to the Escondido community and make it a better place to live.

May 1 & 2, 2010 Annual Fishing Derby AT ESCONDIDO'S LAKE DIXON WAS A GREAT SUCCESS!! Thanks to all of our sponsors and ALL who fished and supported this fundraising event. The kids of Escondido will benefit from your generosity. Saturday Highlights DERBY KICKS OFF WITH 8.15LB TROUT BROUGHT IN BY J. Santana AT 6:45 AM!! Mr. Santana went on to win the Adult class on Saturday!! The weather on Saturday was great - lots of sunshine and very war! Photos from Saturday . . . .
Over 3000 pounds of trout were stocked in Lake Dixon this past week . . and they were biting!! And . . .some as large as 8- 10 lbs!! The fishing was GREAT all weekend for all of the fishermen on the lake - especially along the buoy line and in Trout Cove!! We saw a lot of stringers full of 4 - 8 lb fish!! Our winners for Saturday were . . . Adult First Prize - Fishing Reel J. Santana 8.15 lbs Adult Second Prize - Fishing Rod/Reel + Filet Knife Set Matt Herrera 7.95 lbs Adult Third Prize - Rod & Reel Gilbert Herrera - 5.60 lbs

Sunday Highlights A little wind . . . and lots of sun. . .great crowds . . .and lots of fish caught - including an almost 10 pound winner (9.91 lbs)for the day and the ultimate overall winner! The derby came to an end at 4 pm and derby prizes and door prizes were awarded. The winning fish was 9.91 pounds - caught on Sunday afternoon by Rogelio Tovar.

Saturday 6 am - 6 pm
Sunday 6am - 4 pm Derby closes at 4 pm on Sunday - all fish must be weighed in during derby hours only for verification and weighing.
PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED FOR THE LARGEST FISH CAUGHT EACH DAY - DOOR PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON.

Saturday Highlights DERBY KICKS OFF WITH 7.49LB TROUT BROUGHT IN BY Jose Gurrola AT 9:45 AM!! (NOTE - He went on to WIN the Grand Prize for the largest fish)
The weather on Saturday was great - lots of sunshine and very warm - after it started a bit cold and rainy! Photos from Saturday . . . .
